My Favorite Street in Copenhagen

After having lived in Copenhagen for a couple months, I have explored its different neighborhoods and best spots for shopping and food. Although streets like Nyhavn with its colorful buildings (pictured above) are beautiful, I fell in love with a street called Elmegade.

It is located in Norrebro, which was deemed the “Coolest Neighborhoods in the World” in 2021 and is located just above Copenhagen’s beautiful lakes. The street is lined with small creative boutiques and cafes, where every store either has high quality Danish pieces or consignment shopping. There are so many great places to eat, and my favorite coffee shop, Kaf, is only a few steps away from the street. Shopping and cute cafes are my two favorite things, so whether you are looking for the best place to thrift or enjoy a nice brunch, here are my recommendations!

Shopping

My favorite second hand store on Elmegade is called Hello Good Buy, as they have a variety of curated pieces catering to Danish style but also very timeless and chic. Other stores I love are Second Wardrobe, BauBau, Keiko (amazing shoes!), all carrying pre-loved pieces. Definitely check out a store called Grocery, as it has many of the most popular Danish designers in addition to some lesser-known ones.

Places to Eat

For a quick coffee and pastry break, head to Kaf where you’ll find really good artisanal pastries and coffee served from small roasters across Europe. If it’s a sunny day, they have a great outdoor terrace as well! One of the most popular food places called Grød is also located here, where they do modern twists on traditional Danish porridge. Poulette is a few minutes away which was featured on The Bear and is Dua Lipa’s favorite chicken/tofu sandwich, and it’s one of my favorite places to take people when they visit me here!

Sights to See

At the end of the street you get to a square called Sankt Hans Torv, where there are numerous cafes you can sit at to recharge – its also perfect for people watching! You will also see a beautiful old church in Gothic Revival architecture style called Sankt Johannes Kirke, which also has a peaceful garden surrounding it. Finally, 3 minutes away from Elmegade you will find the Copenhagen Lakes, which is one of my favorite places to walk in Copenhagen.

Elmegade is the best place to go if you’re looking to find unique Danish designers in a vibrant atmosphere while still experiencing the coziness that Copenhagen offers, with many sights just a few steps away.
